PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Former House Speaker Gordon Fox may plead guilty today to criminal charges after nearly a year when raids on his home precipitated his resignation. When asked by a reporter from channel 12 if Fox was heading into Federal Court today, Fox replied, “That’s the plan.” Although the plea agreement hasn’t yet been confirmed, reports are it calls for a three (3) year prison term on charges which include bribery, wire fraud and filing false tax returns.
US Attorney Peter F. Neronha was particularly pleased with the incorporation of a 2008 bribery charge against Fox when he served on the board of licensing. The Feds couldn’t prosecute that charge because it was too late to file charges under federal law. With the help of RI Attorney General Peter Kilmartin, it appears that Fox’s plea agreement may include reference to this incident which involved Sharx Restaurant and its licensing proceedings. All the specifics may be disclosed today, high noon, at the Federal Courthouse.
